Welcome

This page is just an easy reference to some information and links I commonly share.

A few links where I spoke recently that are not locked down behind company walls.

Halloween Projects

Back in 2014, my kids and I decided to connect our doorbell for the kids trick or treating. It was a clown holding a silly string can that laughed and then fired silly string at those looking for candy. We had so much fun building the automation, it became an annual project. It serves as a fun way for us to play around with technology, learn new concepts, and just spend time together. The projects escalated in complexity over the years, until the pandemic, and has become an attraction our house is known for. Check out the detail for fun use of Arduino boards, lights, log machines, and computer vision.

Additional details including a year by year description and video are here.

Interests and Values

I've been passionate about technology and its practical applications making life more enjoyable. Technology can be fun by connecting us with each other, showing us great media, or just removing annoying tasks. I've been successful professionally because I care deeply about the teams I've led, connected engineers to the business problems, and kept my teams learning and growing.

My interests include...

  • Blender - This open source 3D creation suite is one of my favorite pieces of software. I love the convergence of 3D modeling for industrial design, video games, and movie creation. It helps satisfy the builder and the story teller in me. The output keeps my 3D printer quite busy.

  • VR - I love the new immersive experience of room scale VR and look forward when setup become easy enough for wide adoption.

  • Rugby - I played for about 16 years and still enjoy watching. I've made the mistake of trying to come out of retirement a few times but I'm too old.

  • Poker - with friends but not so much in casinos.

  • and a ton more if I can find more hours in the day.

Other Projects...

A few other fun projects/experiments (most on my Vimeo page)...

  • The musical Christmas tree.

  • The remote kite controller.

  • Some fun vine style video edits.
